Rudy Giuliani to Testify Before House Committee
In a bizarre turn of events‚ a Republican congressman has subpoenaed former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani to testify before a House committee investigating a Jan. 6 terrorist attack on the U.S. Capitol. Giuliani initially declined the invitation‚ saying he was unable to appear in person because of a legal problem. House Oversight Committee chairman Bennie Thompson has also subpoenaed other administration officials to testify.WASHINGTON‚ (Reuters) – Rudy Giuliani was the former personal attorney of President Donald Trump. He met with members of the House Committee investigating the attack on Jan. 6‚ 2021 on the Capitol. CNN reported that Giuliani spent more than nine hours meeting with them. Giuliani was a former mayor in New York City. His attorney Robert Costello stated earlier this month that Giuliani had refused to appear before any panel except if his testimony were videotaped. Giuliani was transcribed by the committee at that time. Costello and members of the committee didn't immediately reply to Reuters requests for comment on the CNN report. While Trump supporters stormed Capitol building in January last year‚ thousands of them attacked the Capitol. This sent members of Congress as well as Vice President Mike Pence racing to get cover. Congress met to officially certify that Democrat Joe Biden defeated Republican Trump in November 2020's presidential election. The investigation involved more than 900 individuals‚ many of whom were Trump White House aides. Reporting by Eric Beech‚ Editing by William Mallard
