Britain's foreign secretary Boris Johnson has backed calls to free British aid worker Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe‚ who has been detained by the Iranian government since 2016. A British MP has claimed the UK has paid PS400m in debt to Iran‚ which could help free the detainee. This news has infuriated Ashoori and her family‚ who are demanding her release. The MP said that the UK government has negotiated with the Iranian government to get the British passport back for Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe‚ who has been in Iran since April 2016. The arrest was made in Tehran airport‚ but the British embassy had no knowledge of it‚ and she is still banned from leaving Iran. In a recent interview with the BBC‚ her lawyer‚ Tulip Siddiq‚ said the British negotiating team in Tehran had successfully managed to win her release. The British embassy has also been in contact with the Iranian ambassador in London over the case. According to the UK embassy‚ the passports have been returned to Nazanin. Her British passport has been returned to her after Iranian authorities released her on house arrest. However‚ she will not be released for at least another year‚ as she was originally sentenced for spreading propaganda. Her family‚ including her husband‚ believe she is being held as a political pawn in Iran.
