West Ham vs Man City Player Ratings and Analysis
After a grueling two-game home runâ David Moyes' men will be keen to get back to winning ways against Manchester City. Bowen's first goal - a superb free-kick from a corner - put West Ham ahead in the first half. Bowen scored his second with a well-placed finishâ and Manuel Lanzini was unable to create anything of note. Howeverâ Michail Antonio caused problems for Fernandinho and contributed to Bowen's first goal. Mark Noble's final appearance at the London Stadium was a good addition. The City defence could do better against Bowenâ and Ederson should have prevented the opening goal.Jarrod Bowen
Jarrod Bowen's performance against Manchester City was impressive. West Ham had early momentum and managed to settle into their rhythm but their efforts were undone by the visitors' goal. Midway through the first halfâ Bowen scored after rounding Ederson Moraes. The West Ham striker's goal proved to be the difference as the Hammers went on to win the match 3-0. Although Manchester City did drop points against West Hamâ they remain top of the table courtesy of two goals from Jarrod Bowen. Although West Ham were able to pull a goal back through Jack Grealishâ the hosts were unable to equalise in the second half. Vladimir Coufal headed in his own goal in the closing stagesâ but Man City still remain in pole position to win the title next week.Michail Antonio
Manuel Lanzini was a standout in the first half for Man City but was far from convincing as he made 14 errors. Michail Antonioâ who was introduced as a substituteâ was much more impressive. The Brazilian made a few good saves and a couple of key tacklesâ but he wasn't in the best of form and didn't impress. Antonio's contribution was vital for the Hammersâ who are one of the most expensive sides in the Premier League. Manchester City's goal came after a good first half display from West Hamâ but Manchester City's response was erratic. After a set-piece by Michail Antonioâ City tried to counter with an attackâ but Bowen's clinical finish ended their efforts. After a goalless first halfâ the Hammers took charge and increased their lead in the second.Kevin De Bruyne
Manchester City's dominance continues and in the last few months Kevin De Bruyne has been a key player. With 15 goals already this seasonâ he is the top scorer in the Premier League. The Belgian striker was on the scoresheet against Wolves last Saturdayâ a game in which City won 5-1. Howeverâ with his goal tally on a par with David Silva's last seasonâ it's easy to see why his team are a threat this season. De Bruyne scored three goals in the first half alone. His first goal came from a clever dink towards Sterling and then he latches onto a loose ball and arrows it into the net. He also had two goals with his left footâ one in anticipation and two in corners. The attacking play continued at the other endâ but no one else was able to contain the Belgian.David Moyes
Having been a nuisance for defenders for most of his Everton careerâ Chris Bowen has been a constant presence for West Ham. Bowen has scored 8 goals in 33 games for the Hammersâ and his fine goal against Chelsea was arguably the best of the season. His goals have boosted the Hammers' title hopesâ and he is now a firm favourite with Jurgen Klopp. But is a move to Manchester United a possibility? Probably not. The Hammers' attack is highly aggressiveâ with high levels of aerial dominance at set-pieces. Bowen has shown excellent hold-up play. The midfield and attack have developed under the managerâ with the Hammers showing high degrees of elegance in possession. In terms of individual player ratingsâ he is a good all-rounder. And he can play in the Champions Leagueâ too.Angelo Ogbonna
West Ham United's Angelo Ogbonna scored the only goal in the 74th minuteâ head-coating Jarrod Bowen's corner. While West Ham dominated possession for much of the gameâ they lacked the cutting edge they need in the final third. The Hammers' goalkeeperâ Jordan Pickfordâ was only called into action once and was unable to prevent either side from scoring. Despite not scoring in the first halfâ West Ham showed more spirit in their play in the second half and earned a deserved draw. Despite the early setbackâ the Hammers dominated the second half and had a much more positive start. Angelo Ogbonna rose highest to head home a corner from Jarrod Bowen. The game finished 1-1 as West Ham showed more spirit and looked the more likely to score.Angelo Ogbonna's performance in West Ham vs Man City
Following on from his superb display in midweekâ Angelo Ogbonna has now had another outstanding game against Manchester Cityâ scoring the winning goal and creating a vital assist. He has scored five goals in his last two gamesâ and his performance against City was worthy of his recent form. Here's what you need to know about the midfielder. After allâ he was only 20 years old at the time of the match. Ogbonna has not returned to the pitch yetâ but the Evening Standard reported that the midfielder is training in a gym. He could make his return in one of West Ham's final three Premier League games. West Ham travel to Norwich in their final three games. If Ogbonna is fully fitâ he could be back in action for a midweek game against Norwich. If he recovers on timeâ West Ham have two more Premier League games left before the Europa League final.David Moyes' tactics in the UEFA Europa League
West Ham United manager David Moyes has taken aim at UEFA after their quarter-final exit from the Champions League. The football association is preparing changes to its rules in order to favour traditional big clubs. The proposed changes would allow FA Cup winners to qualify for the Champions League if they have had success in Europe in the past. Howeverâ there is no immediate timescale for the changes to come into effect. While this was an ill-advised moveâ the decision to send Moyes out was understandable. The stalemate was an unwelcome epilogue to a semi-final in which the margins of victory were razor-thin. The semi-final began in bubbles in east Londonâ ended in anticlimax and ignominy. The tactics Moyes employed against Frankfurt were unorthodoxâ but ultimatelyâ they were a success.Noble's performance in West Ham vs Man City
After an impressive cameo against Manchester Cityâ Noble received a framed shirt and captain's armband from his former club. The former Tottenham and West Ham midfielderâ who has been with the club for nine yearsâ is set to play in the upcoming Soccer Aid charity match at the London Stadium. The Prince of Monaco was also present at the game. Noble's performance in the West Ham vs Man City game has helped the club to revive its title race. It was a strange match with a peculiar dynamicâ with both sides seemingly playing for different purposes. Man Cityâ looking to win their fourth title in five yearsâ were vying for the titleâ while West Hamâ celebrating a good season. While Noble's performance was a controversial oneâ his emotional reaction after the match prompted a full-length interview with the BBC. In factâ Noble was in tears prior to the match.Noble's contribution to West Ham vs Man City
A tribute was paid to the West Ham legend during the Westham vs Man City match. A framed shirt and captain's armband were presented to Noble by West Ham legend Sir Trevor Brooking. Brooking is set to play in a charity match at the London Stadium next month. Noble was a boyhood West Ham fan and made his first team debut against Southend in August 2004. Mark Noble has been with West Ham United for 22 years and made more than 500 appearances for the club. In the Premier Leagueâ his contribution to the team is invaluableâ and he has a special place in the hearts of West Ham fans. Noble was a pillar of the clubâ a key part of which was his ability to keep the team together. He was once a free agent but subsequently moved to the London Stadium. The former England international was a vital part of West Ham's team for many years and has since been praised by his peers. One of our own. Canning Town-born.
